At this week’s meeting of the Town Hall and Hildreth House Construction Committee, Assistant Town Administrator Marie Sobalvarro reported that on Nov. 21, Town Hall contractor GVW had agreed to finish the remaining work inside the building and that the work has now been completed, with one exception: The projection screen in upper Town Hall was “wavy and a bit wobbly.” As a result of the November meeting and the work done, the committee voted to request that the selectmen approve payment of $69,374, a portion of the second-to-last payment to GVW. In the next two weeks, Sobalvarro said, final negotiations will take place, and the final payment will be made.
Still remaining on the negotiating table are the wobbly screen and questions about charges for some of the change orders that GVW completed. In addition, some outdoor work is not complete. Paving in the area next to the ramp needs to be done, and the town contends that GVW is responsible for the paving because of over-excavation in that area. The Harvard Town Hall notice board, now leaning against the front of the building, also needs to be rehung. However, Chairman Rick Maiore told the committee that at one time, the Historical Commission didn’t want the notice board to be hung on the building because it wasn’t part of the original Town Hall. Maiore said he would talk to Historical Commission Chairwoman Pam Marston about the issue before any action is taken.
