HES project attracts seven design firms

Seven firms have applied to do the architectural and design work for the elementary school renovation project. Superintendent Linda Dwight told the School Committee at its Nov. 14 meeting that the Hildreth Elementary School Building Committee would look over the applications in the following week and narrow the list, preferably to three.

The next step in the plan, Dwight said, is a Nov. 22 meeting in Boston with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) to discuss the list of applicants. At that meeting, Harvard will be represented by Dwight, School Committee Chairwoman SusanMary Redinger, and Town Administrator Tim Bragan, with the rest of the 15-member group made up of MSBA representatives. While it is possible that the final choice might be made at this meeting, it is more likely, according to Redinger, that the group will vote to proceed with interviews of several applicants.

If the 15-member group chooses to conduct interviews of the shortlisted firms, those interviews will take place Dec. 6, again in Boston, after which the final choice will be made.

“It does not do us any good service to rush this process,” Dwight said, because the schools and the town will be working with the chosen firm for the next four years.
