The Bromfield varsity boys soccer team finished its season this week with a perfect league record. In their final three games, the boys beat the Littleton Lions 4–0 Wednesday, Oct. 26, defeated the Nashoba Chieftains 3–1 Saturday, Oct. 29, and trounced the Tyngsborough Tigers 5–0 Monday this week.
Wednesday’s game against the Lions was away. Just a couple of weeks previously, the Trojan boys had beaten them 3–1. This time they finished 4–0, with an additional goal and stronger defense. Senior Omar Al-Homsi scored the first goal in the first half, followed by another in the second. Juniors Ryell deRuijter and Reilly Fitzsimmons each notched a goal in the second half. Fitzimmons had two assists that afternoon.
In Saturday’s game against the Nashoba Chieftains, Bromfield seniors Stuart Irwin and Al-Homsi each scored within the first seven minutes of the game, while the Chieftains scored off a penalty kick in the second half. Senior Jack Armstrong took the last goal of the day, and senior Colin Grant finished with two assists.
In the final game of the season on Monday, the 5–0 score against Tyngsborough was identical to that of the previous game between the Tigers and the Trojans on Oct. 4.
The varsity boys soccer team is now set to compete in the central district championships. Their first game, after a first-round bye, will be Nov. 6 at Harvard Park. The Trojans are undefeated for the season, 10–0 in the league and 15–0–3 overall. As he was last year, Al-Homsi is the top scorer in the Midland Wachusett D league in which Bromfield competes, and he ranks 11th in the MIAA Central district, with 21 goals and four assists on the season. Armstrong ranks second in the league with 11 goals and 13 assists, while Colin Grant ranks third with four goals and 14 assists.
