This week police made no traffic stops, but they assisted one motorist with a disabled vehicle, helped another motorist get into an inadvertently locked car, and responded to one request for a cooking fire. The ambulance crew responded to six medical emergencies and took six people to the hospital, three with Advanced Life Support on board.
Tuesday, Oct. 11
At 8:01 a.m. an Ayer Road resident called to say that a man with a rifle was entering wetlands near her house, and she was concerned because she was about to leave for work. Police confirmed it was not hunting season and searched the area where the man was seen but found no one.
Wednesday, Oct. 12
State police called at 10:34 a.m. for assistance in searching for a fugitive who had escaped their custody in Harvard. The suspect was apprehended. A Turner Lane resident called at 10:39 a.m. to report that a neighbor was target shooting in his backyard. Police went to the residence and spoke with the man, a shooting instructor, and ordered him to cease shooting. They further warned him that it is a criminal offense to fire a gun within 500 feet of a dwelling. Someone called at 11:32 a.m. to report that a large tree branch was on some electrical lines on Whitney Road, although the lines were not down. The Department of Public Works was asked to remove it. At 8:56 p.m. an officer at the station spoke to a man who had been loitering in the lobby and told him that if he had no official business there, he should leave.
Thursday, Oct. 13
A Bolton Road resident called at 3:39 p.m. to report that the family dog, a female terrier mix, was missing. The dispatcher notified the Bolton animal control officer, since the resident’s home was close to the Bolton town line.
Friday, Oct. 14
A patrol officer stopped at Oak Ridge Observatory at 12:43 p.m. to investigate an occupied car parked there. After discovering that the driver had no official business there, the officer told him that he was trespassing and asked him to leave. Someone called at 5:09 p.m. to report having a minor accident at the General Store, where his car had lightly bumped against another car parked there.
Saturday, Oct. 15
An officer on patrol at 2:27 a.m. stopped at the Prospect Hill overlook to tell the driver of a car parked there that the area was closed to the public at that hour. Stow police called at 6:03 p.m. to ask Harvard officers to check on the welfare of an older woman seen walking on Harvard Road in Stow, carrying a bag and heading toward Harvard. Police did not locate the woman.
Sunday, Oct. 16
At 8:25 p.m. Sgt. James Babu issued a summons to a 17-year-old juvenile in connection with multiple larcenies at Fruitlands Museum after the person admitted being connected to the thefts during an interview at the police station. According to police, the pending charges include three counts of larceny from a building, four counts of larceny over $250, and one count of larceny under $250.
Monday, Oct. 17
A patrol officer stopped at the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge parking lot at 2:50 a.m. to tell someone in a car parked there that the area was closed at that time. A motorist called at 8:55 a.m. to report a single-car accident on Fairbank Street, where a car struck a utility pole. Police say the driver had been distracted while making a turn. The driver was not injured, and damage to the pole was minor. No citation was issued. A resident called at 11:58 p.m. to report that some anti-Muslim graffiti had been painted on the wall of the Route 2 overpass on Depot Road. The caller said that he believed it may have been directed at his family. The DPW was asked to paint over or otherwise remove the graffiti.
