Early voting available
through Nov. 3
Registered voters may take advantage of early voting for the Nov. 8 state/presidential election on these dates at Town Hall:
- Friday, Oct. 28, 8 a.m. to noon
- Saturday, Oct. 29, 9 a.m. to noon
- Monday, Oct. 31, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Nov. 1, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 2 and 3, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Also, registered voters may vote early by mail. Fill out an application and mail it to Town Clerk, 13 Ayer Road, Harvard, MA 01451. The application is at www.sec.state.ma.us/ele.
Absentee voting
Absentee ballots for the state/federal election on Nov. 8 are available at the town clerk’s office. Voters who will be out of town during polling hours on election day or who will be unable to vote in person due to physical disability or religious belief may request an absentee ballot. See www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/absentee_ballot.pdf for an application. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is noon on Monday, Nov. 7.
Cemetery flowers must be removed
The Harvard Cemetery Commission advises that all flowers must be removed from cemeteries by Nov. 1. The Department of Public Works will remove any remaining flowers after that date.
Suicide prevention forum
The Harvard Public Schools will host a public forum on the topic of suicide prevention and warning signs Friday, Oct. 28, at 7:45 a.m. at Town Hall. Bromfield counselors and staff will share resources and prevention measures and answer questions.
Toll plaza demolitions begin this weekend
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that plans are on schedule to activate All Electronic Tolling (AET) on Friday, Oct. 28, and begin demolishing existing toll plazas. As the EZDriveMA program is launched, drivers will begin to be charged tolls when passing under 16 gantry locations, and contractors will be deployed in 23 work zones. Drivers will have the option of using a free EZPassMA transponder to receive a toll discount, using an out-of-state transponder, or being invoiced if not using a transponder under the Pay By Plate payment process. Rent a rower for leaf raking
The Bromfield Acton-Boxborough rowing team will offer its annual Rent-a-Rower leaf raking service to Harvard residents the weekend of Nov. 5-6. Crews of three athletes plus one adult will come equipped with a walk-behind leaf blower and a backpack blower, as well as rakes and tarps. Price is based on yard size and leaf coverage. Halloween on the Common
Halloween in Harvard will be held Monday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with trick-or-treating in and around the town center. Candy donations are being accepted in the lobby of the police station.
On Halloween, children who have collected for UNICEF should bring their boxes to the General Store parking lot where there will be a giant UNICEF box for the money. Proceeds will be used to support children throughout the world.
Calling all children’s choir members!
All children in grades 2-12 are invited to join this year’s Ecumenical Christmas Pageant choir. No singing experience or church affiliation is necessary—just a love of holiday music! Rehearsals will be on five Sundays and two Saturdays in November and early December. The pageant itself will be Sunday, Dec. 11, at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Questions?
