The Bromfield girls cross country team raced in a dual meet against Littleton at Fay Park on Thursday, Sept. 9. It was a challenging course with 5,000 meters composed of mostly gravel road and grass-covered trails. By a score of 25–30, the girls lost a competitive race.
Bromfield’s top runner, freshman Tessa McClain, came in first overall with a time of 21 minutes, 31 seconds. Captain and senior Eva Xue finished second on the team, fourth overall, at 25 minutes, with eighth-grader Hannah Beckman following just behind.
The new team is very young, with most runners in eighth grade, so the focus this season will be development. It was an unfavorable first meet for four of the runners, with hot and humid weather on top of a difficult course with an abundance of hills. The new coach, Matthew Lynde, believes that they “represented Bromfield and themselves very well, showing no quit. Over just the past two weeks,” Lynde said, “there has been a lot of improvement for the new runners.”
