The Bromfield girls varsity soccer team won its first game of the season against North Middlesex at home last Wednesday, Sept. 7, with an impressive score of 6–3, and then went on to tie Maynard 5–5 at an away game Friday, Sept. 9.

In the Middlesex game, the Trojans struck first with a goal in the fourth minute of play by senior Sarah Doben, assisted by junior Sarah Moore. Shortly after, Doben scored a second goal, assisted by freshman Sam Schoenburg. Later goals were scored by Moore, senior Kaeli Armstrong, and twice by junior Ashtyn Chipman.
The Maynard game proved more difficult. Cara Olejarz, a junior on the varsity team, said, “We were more evenly matched with Maynard than we were with North Middlesex. I think that’s why it was harder for us to score.”
Janine Bilodeau, the team’s assistant coach, said after the Wednesday win, “We are excited with the amount of talent from returning and new players this year. We’re looking forward to a successful season. Today’s win gets us off to a good start.” Bilodeau said she appreciated any support, big or small, from the community, and hoped for a successful season.
The team was scheduled to next play Hudson at home on Sept. 14 followed by a home game against Lunenburg on Sept. 21.
