Senior Day at the Farmers Market
On Saturday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to noon, there will be something special for seniors—those over the age of 60—at the Harvard Farmers Market. Seniors may use SNAP cards to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at some vendors; signs are posted for your convenience. The COA van will also be available to transport seniors to and from the market. The music for the market that day is Debbie Thompson’s band, Back to the Garden.
Upcoming COA trips
- Roger Williams State Park, Wednesday, Aug. 31. The trip will start with brunch at J.P. Spoonem’s in Providence, then on to the park. There will be a shuttle service throughout the afternoon stopping at the park zoo, botanical garden, natural history museum, swan boats, and carousel. The van will return to Harvard around 5:30 p.m. Fee is $5 for the van, plus lunch and fees for various special venues.
- Westport, Friday, Sept. 16. Lunch at the Back Eddy restaurant, a wine tasting at Westport Rivers Winery, the largest vineyard in New England, and stops at local farmstands. The van fee is $5.
- Lowell, Friday, Sept. 30. Lunch at the Life Alive restaurant and a visit to the Lowell National Historical Park. Trolley and walking tours of the park are free; boat tours cost $10 for seniors. The van fee is $5.
Donations needed for Flea Market booth
The Friends of the Council on Aging are collecting treasures to sell at their booth at the Annual Harvard Flea Market, Saturday, Oct. 8. Call Claudia Jarratt, 978-456-3928, or Pat Jennings, 978-456-0011 for more information.
Senior Day at Fruitlands
On Monday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tufts Healthcare and RiverCourt Residences will team with Fruitlands to offer visitors over 55 free admission. Enjoy live music, a poetry writing workshop, a guided trail walk, artist demonstrations, and more. If you need a ride, the COA will provide a free shuttle to and from your home with 48-hour notice.
