Safety and accessibility renovations to Hildreth House are underway. The contractor, Classic Construction, has completed demolition both inside and outside of the building. Assistant Town Administrator Marie Sobalvarro told the Town Hall and Hildreth House Construction Committee (THHHCC) at its Aug. 8 meeting that three change orders approved by the committee have been submitted to the contractor. The first is to anchor the new lift to ledge, which is necessary because the ledge is closer to the lift location than first thought. The second is for a different lift door than the one specified in the bid package, and the third is to have the contractor determine the cost of installing the remaining 14 windows purchased last year with money from a Community Preservation Committee grant. Volunteers completed the installation of 24 windows before Classic Construction began work at the Hildreth House.
At Tuesday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, THHHCC member Connie Larrabee reported that there is about $30,000 remaining from the window grant, which the Hildreth House Improvement Committee would like to use to pay Classic Construction to finish the window installation. But because the improvement committee was not reappointed in June, it no longer officially exists, so the funds cannot be transferred. The selectmen voted unanimously to create a new Hildreth House Improvement Committee consisting of THHHCC members Larrabee, Laura Andrews, and Rick Maiore for the purpose of seeing the window installation project through to completion. Renovations are expected to be completed in January.
