We are personally offended by the criticism of Lucy Wallace for voicing her opinions at selectmen’s meetings and the Town Meeting. These actions against Lucy have been offensive and divisive.
Those who have been critical have forgotten that in all instances the Town Meeting is the final decision-making body. For example, it is the obligation of the Capital Planning and Investment Committee to make recommendations. The selectmen, as a body, may support those recommendations. Selectmen may speak out as individual residents at any time, but the Town Meeting makes the final decisions.
To disrespect or intimidate one person is to belittle us all. Leadership is not about forcing others into silence or agreement.
As residents, we all vote out of conscientious consideration and should never be swayed by any one person’s opinion.
The town has spoken—live with it.
