Bromfield Principal Jim O’Shea has announced that he will be leaving the Harvard school system for a position as schools superintendent in Carlisle. Although the official contract with Carlisle was not scheduled to be signed until Friday, O’Shea broke the news of his departure to the Bromfield faculty and staff at a meeting Wednesday.
In his new post as superintendent, O’Shea will oversee the two schools in the Carlisle Public School District: the elementary school and the middle school, covering kindergarten through eighth grade. At the high school level, Carlisle is regionalized with Concord.
Harvard Schools Superintendent Linda Dwight informed the School Committee of O’Shea’s impending departure by email. His contract in Harvard runs through June 30.
O’Shea has held the top spot at Bromfield since 2006. Before coming to Harvard, he served as an administrator at North Middlesex Regional High School for six years. He began his career in education at Nashua High School in New Hampshire, where he taught social studies for seven years.
O’Shea is a graduate of the Boston Latin School and holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, an M.A. in secondary education from Suffolk University, and a Certificate of Advanced Educational Specialization in Education Leadership from Boston College.
