Statistical analyst, world traveler, hiker and climber
Michael Maccini, of Harvard and North Haverhill, New Hampshire, passed away early on the morning of April 5, 2016, at UMass Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in 1947, Michael grew up in Wellesley, the youngest child of Charles and Eleanor (DeLuca) Maccini. Michael graduated from Wellesley High School in 1966 and enlisted in the Army. He trained in the elite 10th Mountain Division and went through the noncommissioned officer academy at Fort Knox. Michael graduated from Harford Community College in Maryland and from Worcester State College.
In his earlier years, Michael led a life of adventure. He traveled and hiked all over the United States and the world. Michael made seven trips to Europe and countless trips to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Tahiti. He hiked volcanoes in Iceland and climbed the Matterhorn in the Alps.
For many years Michael was employed by NP Medical in Clinton as a statistical analyst.
Michael had many interests and hobbies. He loved cats. He was a genius at solving complex math problems. He loved astronomy, he was concerned about the environment, and when he could, he sought the peace of his little red schoolhouse in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Michael also was serving on his 50th class reunion committee.
Michael is survived by his sister, Charlotte Peterson, of Natick, and his brother, Charles (Leigh), of Cotuit. He was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine. Michael also leaves many nieces and nephews and two grandnephews.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at the Hope Chapel in Sterling, with a reception to follow. Burial will be private.
