Superintendent Linda Dwight informed the School Committee that she had received 29 applications for the position of Bromfield School principal as of Monday evening. She attributed the large number of applicants to Bromfield’s reputation, saying educators had heard about the school and wanted to be part of this community.
Dwight said she had also received Principal Jim O’Shea’s official resignation in a letter dated April 15. “My 10 years here at Bromfield seem to have flown by,” O’Shea, wrote, “and I have been quite blessed to have had the opportunity to work with such amazing students, dedicated professionals, and in such a supportive community.” His resignation will take effect July 1.
The search committee for a new principal includes a dozen people, with representatives from the School Committee and Bromfield faculty, students, and parents. Even more people volunteered, Dwight said, but arranging meetings for a committee with more than 12 members is difficult.
Dwight is asking the search committee to review all applications by next Monday, May 2, after which the group will settle on six to eight candidates for fuller screening. When the committee has selected two finalists, a public interview will be scheduled for each. Dwight said she hopes to name the new Bromfield principal by mid-May.
