I have been asked, why am I not running for charter commission? Be assured, I am no less committed to the process than when we were shivering at the Transfer Station, collecting signatures to put the question on the ballot. I decided I could be more help by supporting the process than by competing for a seat on the commission. Accordingly, I intend to offer support, as a volunteer, maintaining the website harvardmatters.org to host resources (sample charters, discussion forum) and attending all meetings to foster participation. Of course, it will be a decision for the commission to choose how it operates, but my offer of support will be there.
On harvardmatters.org, I have created two forums on the Charter Commission tab: (1) Commission Candidates (running? tell us why), and (2) Charter Issues (changes to be considered—what and why?). The only requirement to post is to be a registered user on the site. To register, click the “register” link at the top of the site, and enter name, address, and email address. The site is open to everyone to read, but posting requires a verified registration.
I hope everyone running will post an entry to the candidates’ forum. Good luck, and I look forward to meeting with the newly elected commission as soon as possible after the election.
