On Tuesday, March 1, the Bromfield Trojans girls basketball team lost to the Tyngsborough Tigers in an intense match that ended with a score of 54–27. The MIAA Central Division 3 first-round game was played in the Bromfield gymnasium.
Bromfield player Amanda Accorsi, the high scorer of the evening, scored one out of every four points. She started off the game with the first basket. From then on, the Tyngsborough Tigers began to dominate the game. The score was 18–4 after the first quarter, 22–10 at the end of the second, 38–17 in the third, and 54–27 in the fourth.
The loud cheering from both sides of the bleachers mirrored the intensity of the game, and as the evening progressed, both teams became more aggressive and physical. By the end of the night, Bromfield had committed 23 fouls and Tyngsborough 17. It was common for players to fall onto the floor as a result of pushing or fumbling for the ball.
Although the Tigers came out victorious in the end, the Trojan players persevered. The Bromfield girls intercepted many passes with their strong defense, and they made a 10-point comeback in the fourth quarter. Six of the 10 points came from successful foul shots by eighth-grader Callie Frackiewicz and junior Sadie Flanagan.
Bromfield Coach Mike Davidson offered some final thoughts about the evening: “We played a fantastic basketball game against a very very good opponent. Tyngsborough has a very good reputation … it was a very tall order for us to compete against a team of that caliber. I thought that we really fought hard … I couldn’t be more happy with the way the season went overall.”
