The rainy, cold day did not dampen the spirits of many walkers who ventured out on the Great Food Walk (GFW) last Friday, raising money for Sharing Inc. and Loaves & Fishes. Indeed, 116 walkers from 23 towns, collectively walking 650 miles, with pledges reaching nearly $15,000, braved the elements walking from the Harvard Common on a 5-mile loop course. This great cooperative effort could not have been successful without the support of our hearty walkers, nearly 60 GFW volunteers; the Girl Scouts for baking their signature brownies; select Boy Scouts for the welcome cleanup help; the Harvard DPW, the Police Department, the local newspapers, Fruitlands Museum, and, for hosting us, the Congregational Church!
Contributions are still arriving—it’s not too late (GFW, 94 Jackson Road, Suite 105B, Devens, MA 01434). Both Loaves & Fishes, serving clients in Ayer, Devens, Groton, Harvard, Littleton, and Shirley, and Sharing Inc., helping people in the rural South, are grateful for the generosity of our wider community.
