Candidates sought to serve on Charter Commission
The Board of Selectmen voted on Feb. 2 to place the Charter Commission question on the April 12, 2016, Town Election ballot. By state law, nine charter commissioners must be elected on the same ballot. Any Harvard registered voter may run for one of these positions, and there is no limit to the number that may run. The top nine vote-getters would be elected if the ballot question to create the commission passes.
The position of Charter Commissioner does not currently exist in Harvard, so it will NOT be on the town’s caucus warrant. Potential candidates will need to file nomination papers. Nomination papers will be available in the town clerk’s office starting Monday, Feb. 8. Twenty-seven (27) certified signatures are required to place a name on the ballot. The deadline to file the nomination papers is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.

Kindergarten registration
If you are a Harvard or Devens resident and your child will turn 5 years old before Sept. 1, 2016, your child is eligible for kindergarten in the 2016–2017 school year. If you are listed on the town census, you will receive a letter from the school providing screening and registration information. Letters will be mailed by Feb. 16, 2016. If you are not listed on the census or if you do not receive a letter by Feb. 19, please contact Christine Reale, guidance counselor, at creale@psharvard.org.
Harvard volunteers needed
Two Harvard members are needed on the Devens Open Space and Recreation Advisory Committee. This committee advises the Joint Boards of Selectmen regarding the protection and management of open space and recreation in Devens. It is comprised of two members each from Ayer, Harvard, and Shirley appointed by the selectmen of the respective towns and one member each designated by the Nashua River Watershed Association, the Mass. Department of Conservation and Recreation, and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
