Bromfield’s indoor track teams competed at the Midland Wachusett C League Meet on Monday, Feb. 1. In a field of eight teams, the girls placed third and the boys eighth.
The Trojans started off strong in the sprinting events, with sophomore Chloe Alfieri taking second in the 55-meter dash and in the 300-meter. Fellow sophomore Cameron Hettich placed sixth in the 55-meter hurdles, adding to Bromfield’s score. In the distance events, eighth-grader Tessa McClain placed second in the 1-mile and fifth in the 1,000-meter, while senior Kate Toll took third in the 2-mile. Junior Grace Turnbull won the high jump.
Bromfield also placed in all three of the relays. The 4×220-yard relay was run by sophomores Anya Begue and Hettich, eighth-grader Liza Toll and Turnbull; the 4×440-yard relay was run by junior Sophie Beckman, seventh-grader Anya Buchovechy, eighth-grader Lwiza Aitdowd, and seventh-grader Hannah Beckman; and the 4×880-yard relay was run by Sophie Beckman, Buchovechy, seventh-graders Olivia Blair and Hannah Beckman.
The boys team scored in two events: junior Paul Chapman placed fifth in the 1-mile, and Chapman, eighth-grader Will Squire, sophomore Tucker Banios, and junior Will Day ran to a sixth-place finish in the 4×440-yard relay.
On Saturday, Feb. 6, the Trojans ran at the District E Indoor Division II Invitational. On the girls side of the meet, Alfieri won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.73 seconds. Adding to Bromfield’s score was McClain, who placed fifth in the 1-mile, and Turnbull, who finished sixth in the high jump. The Trojans’ 4×220-yard relay team — Begue, Hettich, Turnbull, and Alfieri — sprinted to a strong fourth-place finish in a field of 23. Overall, Bromfield placed eighth out of about 30 teams in attendance.
On the boys side, Chapman was the only athlete to score in the individual events, placing sixth in the 1-mile.
Narragansett, Jan. 27
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, Bromfield competed against Narragansett. The girls won the meet with a score of 58–33, and the boys lost the meet by a score of 63–28.
The girls squad had solid performances across the board, winning both relays, the sprints, the hurdles, and the distance events.
The 4×200 meter relay was won by Begue, Hettich, Liza Toll and Turnbull, and the 4×400 meter relay was won by Buchovechy, Sophie Beckman, Aitdowd and McClain.
Alfieri nabbed first place in both the 55-meter dash and in the 300-meter, and Begue finished first in the 55-meter hurdles. Bromfield placed first in the 1,000-meter, the 1-mile, and the 2-mile, with Kate Toll taking first in the 1,000-meter and the 2-mile and McClain winning the 1-mile. Turnbull won the high jump.
Also scoring for the Trojans were Liza Toll and Hettich, who placed second in the 55-meter dash and 55-meter hurdles, respectively. Buchovechy finished third in the 600-meter, and Hannah Beckman placed second in both the 1,000-meter and the 1-mile. In the field events, Sophie Beckman placed second in the high jump, and senior Carlisle Ferguson placed third in the shot put.
The Bromfield boys had a strong meet, given the size of their team compared to Narragansett’s significantly larger team. The Trojans placed first in three events: Chapman won the 600-meter, seventh-grader Jack Yu won the 1-mile, and the 4×400-meter relay team won its event.
In the sprinting events, senior Kyle Route placed third in both the 55-meter hurdles and the 300-meter, junior Cole Stecyk placed second in the 600-meter, and Day placed second in the 1,000-meter. Seventh-graders Dylan Winchell and Eric Dahlstrom finished second and third in the 1-mile. Rounding out the boys scoring was Squire, who took third in the 2-mile.
