Bromfield finished up for the season with a giant slalom on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Nashoba Valley Ski Area with the boys finishing third out of eight teams and the girls snatching seventh. The boys garnered 440 points, finishing the season fifth in the league in combined results with a 23–19 record and 46 points. The girls are seventh in the league with 18 points and a 9–33 record.

The two top-10, four top-20, and five top-25 finishes helped the boys achieve an impressive score of 440, the highest score they have obtained in any race this or last year. There were many individual improvements for the last race before the MIAA State Championship. Connor Reitler had a commendable finish, his best ever, moving from 19th to sixth, and Jack Donaldson followed five-hundredths of a second behind Reitler, finishing in seventh. Camden Maddalone attained his first top-20 finish, while Justin Patenaude also had his best-ever finish with another top-30 overall and top-three JV finish.
The girls achieved 366 points, a score second highest during any race in the past two seasons. Sage McFarland finished in the top-30 and second on the team after just returning from an injury. Natalie O’Leary, Sadie Keiran, and Isabel Barton all had their best-ever grand slalom.
Brigid Griffin (13th), Benjamin Williams (14th), and Haydn Hammill (15th) all finished in the top-16, qualifying for states. Donaldson, 17th, is the first alternate, and Reitler, 20th, is the fourth alternate.
Overall, the Bromfield skiers have improved a lot and quickly. Coach David Bobruff reports that compared to their position in league standings last year, 12 of the returning skiers improved on average more than 16 places. He said, “This is a real testament to the hard work and consequent improvement you’ve all made!”
States will be held at the Wachusett Ski Area on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
