On Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Nashoba Valley Ski Area, the Bromfield boys ski team placed second out of eight teams while the girls placed sixth out of eight. After the race, the boys ranked fifth in their league for slalom and giant slalom combined, with 36 points and an 18–17–0 record. The girls’ combined standing was seventh, with 16 points and an 8–27–0 record.
The boys won second place at last week’s meet, the best results from Bromfield boys in more than five years. Coach David Bobruff said that he knew the boys “were a great slalom team, if we could just get everyone down the hill,” which they did. Jack Donaldson, a freshman, was the second-place finisher. Camden Maddalone had his best slalom run of the year, and both he and Patrick Keiran finished their runs smoothly to help pull Bromfield to second. If the boys have a strong race at the next giant slalom, they will have a winning season.
The girls had all five skiers finish, and they beat both Chelmsford and Westford in the process. They may be able to finish the season ahead of Lowell and possibly Chelmsford, depending on their next race.
Finally, with some heavy snow bringing improved conditions, the next slalom race was scheduled to be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, followed by the MIAA State Championship, planned for Tuesday, Feb. 23.
