Tiger hockey defeats Ludlow, falls to Assabet

January 28, 2016

Littleton-Bromfield varsity hockey fell to Assabet 4–3 on Monday, Jan. 25, in an away game at the New England Sports Center. Assabet player Ernie Jones scored all four of his team’s goals: one in the first period, two in the second, and one in the third. Junior Kris Cecere scored the Tigers’ first goal, assisted by seniors Richie Planchet and Joey DeCoste, followed by a goal by junior Nick Evans from Cecere and junior Eric Rauker, and a goal by senior Nate Dutkewych from Rauker. The Tigers took the lead in the first period with two goals to Assabet’s one, but Assabet tied the game in the second. Despite the Tigers’ slight lead in shots, with 28 to Assabet’s 27, they were unable to hold their opponents off in the third period when they finally fell behind. Their passing was crisp in the first and second periods but slipped in the third, allowing their opponents to take the lead.

The prior weekend, the Tigers beat Ludlow 3–1 on Saturday, Jan. 23, home at the Groton School. Ludlow scored its only goal 2 minutes 35 seconds into the first period. Bromfield goal scorers were sophomore Jacob Montepeluso with an assist from Dutkewych and Planchet, freshman James Peterson from freshman Justin Montepeluso, and freshman Danny Angell from Evans and Rauker. With no goals scored in the third period, the game was not an easy one despite the two-goal differential. The Tigers often found themselves stuck in their defensive zone, and Ludlow took more shots on goal, 34 to the Tigers’ 26.

The Tigers next face off against Worcester on Saturday, Jan. 30, home at the Groton School at 6 p.m.

Lily Moore-Eissenberg is a senior at the Bromfield School.
