The Bromfield girls indoor track team won against Murdock on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 63–19. The boys team lost by a score of 38–52.
The girls placed first in all the individual running events, the high jump, and the 4×200-meter relay. Bromfield’s sophomore sprinters Cameron Hettich and Chloe Alfieri placed first in the 55-meter high hurdles and in the 55-meter dash and 300-meter, respectively. Junior Sophie Beckman won both the 600-meter and the high jump; eighth-grader Tessa McClain won the 1,000-meter and the 1-mile, and senior Kate Toll won the 2-mile.
The 4×200-meter relay was run by seventh-grader Olivia Blair, eighth-grader Lwiza AitDowd, eighth-grader Allie Hunter, and seventh-grader Anya Buchovecky.
The top three point-scorers for the season are Alfieri, Toll, and Beckman.
The boys team had solid performances in the distance events. Junior Cole Stecyk took first in the 600-meter, junior Will Day placed second in the 1,000-meter, junior Paul Chapman won the 1-mile, and sophomore Tucker Banios finished third in the 2-mile.
The Bromfield boys also did well in the 55-meter hurdles and the shot put, which were won by seniors Kyle Route and Jon Schmidt, respectively.
Twin losses at Littleton
The top three cumulative point scorers for the boys are Chapman, Day, and Schmidt.
After a 74–17 Jan. 14 loss to Littleton, the boys are tied for last place in the Wachusett C league with an 0–5 record for the season. In their own matchup with Littleton on Jan. 14, the girls lost 50–41, leaving them with a 1–4 record and tied for sixth place in the Wachusett C league.
Alfieri breaks 55m record
Alfieri broke Bromfield’s 55-meter record on Saturday at the MSTCA Coaches Invitational Meet. The record was previously set in 2000 by Liz Long at 7.60 seconds. The new record is 7.57 seconds.
