Much has been discussed about the selection of the harsh lighting and the nontraditional draping of the new lights for our town Christmas tree on the Common, yet there is another important issue—the electric panel! Anyone and/or department that authorized, built, and installed this and thinks that this is acceptable certainly has absolutely no sense of creative design or respect for the historic sanctity of our beloved Common. It certainly is a direct insult to our home and residence at 1 Elm Street as it sits prominently in full sight from our front walkway. For over 16 years we have worked to enhance our property on the Common, and like all residents around the Common, we take pride in the Common. We have some very simple and creative ideas for appropriately camouflaging this hideous electric panel and hope that the appropriate town departments and commissions will take positive initiatives not only to enhance the Christmas tree lighting but to make this offensive electrical panel aesthetically appropriate.
