The Harvard Lions Club donates 100 percent of profits made from this year’s two-day event (and all our events around town) to charity and the community. In addition to money donated to help prevent worldwide blindness and to support Massachusetts Lions eye research, the Clara Barton Diabetes Camp for girls, the Joslin Diabetes Camp for boys, assistance dogs for the deaf and disabled, a sight and hearing fund that provides financial assistance to families and schools for new equipment, an audio journal for the visually impaired, and the Lions eyeglass recycling program, your participation at our annual fall festival also benefitted your community. Thanks to you, we were able to donate a total of $17,230 to the following local organizations:
Bromfield Service Awards: financial award for graduating seniors for community service
Bromfield Celebration: financial support for the post-prom party to help keep our juniors and seniors safe on prom night
Hildreth Elementary School: financial support for bus for special education students in the North Central School Day Games at Fitchburg State
Loaves & Fishes: provide food for needy families
Harvard Fire Department: purchased training props to simulate scenarios for training firefighters and a storage container for them
Harvard Ambulance Squad: purchased an Arrow EZ-IO Intraosseous Vascular Access System used to provide fast circulatory access to critical patients; purchased approximately 1,000 “File of Life” cards to distribute to Harvard residents
Council on Aging: provided house-cleaning services for seniors who need extra help but do not qualify for other services; food and utensils for specially themed meals such as Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day, picnics, and ice cream socials
Thurston Healing Garden: subsidize the cost of needed third-party services to those who can’t afford the full cost
Eagle project: financial help with constructing an accessible walkway from the beach parking lot to the sand in front of the beach house
J.U.M.P. program: financially supported Harvard girl who is legally blind to attend the “Just Understand My Potential” program
The Lions Club motto is “To Serve.” When you come and pay our entrance fees, eat our food, play a round of “Log Joust,” compete in the triathlon, or sponsor one of our events, you enable us to serve our community.
From all of us at Harvard Lions, thank you.
Nat Beale, president
