Open House
The Friends of the Council on Aging will host an open house at Hildreth House Saturday, Nov. 21, 9 a.m. to noon. Meet friends and neighbors for refreshments and conversation.
Senior Housing Expo
The COA and the League of Women Voters of Harvard will sponsor a Housing Expo Saturday, Nov. 21, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Church Fellowship Building. The free event will feature information on a variety of housing options for seniors as well as options for services that support at-home care.
COA and Harvard Help offer transportation
To secure rides to medical appointments, personal appointments, and local shopping between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., call the COA at 978-456-4120. Harvard Help is used as backup if the COA van is not available. Forty-eight-hour notice is required to schedule a ride from either organization.
Cellphone donation
The National Association of Councils on Aging has a program to recycle cellphones and offer them to seniors for emergency use. Drop off your old phone and charger at Hildreth House, and the COA will send them to the national organization.
Computer support
Knowledgeable volunteers are available Tuesdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., to answer any questions about computers.
Weekly grocery shopping
The COA van will pick up seniors to go grocery shopping Friday mornings at 8:30 a.m. Call 978-456-4120 to reserve a seat. The van fee is $2.
Journey to Bethlehem
On Friday, Dec. 4, seniors will visit Faith Evangelical Church in Acton for an indoor multimedia presentation and outdoor candlelight walk dramatizing the Christmas story. The walk is not wheelchair accessible. Leave Hildreth House at 5 p.m., have dinner at Not Your Average Joe’s, attend the presentation, and return to Harvard at about 9:30. There is no charge for the van or for the event at the church.
