This week police made 13 traffic stops, which resulted in eight citations, three verbal warnings, and one summons. Police also assisted one motorist with a disabled vehicle and fielded one call reporting downed utility wires. The ambulance crew responded to seven medical emergencies and took six people to the hospital, one with Advanced Life Support on board. One person refused treatment.
Tuesday, Nov. 10:
At 4:18 p.m. a caller reported a horse in the roadway on Prospect Hill Road. Animal control was called, but after arriving, discovered the horse had already found its way home.
Wednesday, Nov. 11:
A resident on Old Littleton Road called at 10:53 a.m. to report that the person from whom he’d purchased a cord of wood had shorted the delivery. Police contacted the vendor, who agreed to make up the shortfall. At 11:57 p.m. police, firefighters, and the Harvard ambulance were called to the scene of a house fire on Mill Road. Seven other fire departments responded as well, including Ayer, Devens, Littleton, Boxborough, Bolton, Shirley, and Lancaster. There were no injuries. (For full report see story on page one.)
Thursday, Nov. 12:
A Westcott Road resident called at 1:30 p.m. to report that an unfamiliar man was walking around the house and that a blue car was parked in the driveway. The car was gone when police arrived, but the resident called again later to say that it had returned. Police went to the home and found the car preparing to exit the driveway. Police stopped it and interrogated the driver, who said that he was there to prepare an estimate for a roofing job. They subsequently issued a summons to the man, a Milford resident, after discovering he did not have a driver’s license in his possession.
Friday, Nov. 13:
A bow hunter called at 5:35 am. to notify police that he would be leaving his car at Ryan Field while he was hunting. At 6:48 a.m. an Ayer Road resident called to inquire about a power outage that had affected the home. Someone stopped at the station at 9:09 a.m. seeking advice about a civil matter. At 9:30 a.m. a landlord stopped at the station to report that his tenant was missing. After an investigation, the tenant was located in Jamaica, where she was vacationing. At 7:37 p.m. someone called to report an occupied car parked on conservation land on Murray Lane. An officer went to the scene and advised the occupant, who had been sleeping, that it was after hours to be on the property and he should leave. A resident on Mettacomet Path called at 8:14 p.m. to complain that a neighbor’s dog was in his yard barking. The caller was advised to contact the animal control officer but called back to say the officer had not answered the phone. Police say the caller insisted that a police officer come to the residence. The officer who responded advised the resident that there is no leash law in Harvard and that a formal complaint about the dog could be filed with the animal control officer.
Saturday, Nov. 14
At 6:34 a.m. a West Bare Hill Road resident called to complain about noise from a construction crew setting up to do some work. The caller was advised that the crew was preparing to do some work scheduled to start at 7 a.m. and that a detail officer would be standing by during the project. An officer on patrol at 4:37 p.m. stopped at a Bolton Road home to inform the residents that the location where their car was parked on the street presented a hazard. The residents agreed to move the vehicle. A motorist driving on Ayer Road toward Ayer called at 7:20 p.m. to report that a car had just sped past him, as well as two other cars, across a double yellow line. Harvard police did not locate the speeding car, but notified Ayer police to watch for it.
Sunday, Nov. 15
An emergency call that came in at 4:45 p.m. reporting a burst pipe in the basement of an Ayer Road residence was referred to the Fire Department.
Monday, Nov. 16
At 8:01 p.m. a Prospect Hill Road resident called to speak with an officer about a possible trespassing issue.
