Halloween collections for UNICEF
Harvard’s UNICEF Halloween fund-drive has begun and will continue until Halloween. Children may pick up a UNICEF box at the Hildreth Elementary School main office, the General Store, the Harvard transfer station (Saturdays only), HAA youth soccer games, and the Farmers Market. Children from kindergarten to eighth grade are encouraged to learn about UNICEF at www.unicefusa.org/trick-or-treat/about and start collecting change from family, friends, and neighbors. On Halloween there will be a giant UNICEF collection box for all donations located in front of the General Store. Town center houses are exempt from collections. This effort is spearheaded by a group of Harvard parents and children.
Trick-or-treating and candy donations
Halloween in Harvard will be held Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with trick-or-treating in and around the town center. Candy donations are now being accepted in the lobby of the police station.
Building canoe and kayak racks
The Parks and Recreation Commission is hosting a community building project to add four new canoe and kayak racks at Bare Hill Pond next summer. Two work-weekends are planned—Oct. 31, Nov. 1, and Nov. 7, 8—though work may be completed early. Volunteers of all skill levels can help, including assembly and painting. Crew leaders will supervise.
Boats and kayaks must be removed from Bare Hill Pond’s boat racks by Friday, Oct. 30.
Celebration 2016 kick-off
The Celebration Committee will hold its kick-off meeting Monday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Bromfield library. Parents of children grades 8 through 11 are especially encouraged to attend, though anyone is welcome. There is a range of roles and levels of involvement for volunteers. Celebration is an event organized by parents and Harvard community members to provide a fun and safe environment for juniors and seniors after the Bromfield prom. The committee produces themed events that promote substance-free post-prom entertainment. Information may be found at www.bromfieldcelebration.com.
Basketball programs
The Harvard Basketball Association offers youth programs for grades K through 8 all winter. Registration closes Saturday, Oct. 24.
Adult league pick-up style basketball is offered Monday and Wednesday evenings. For information and to register go to harvardbastketball.org.
