Both Bromfield House and the old library are still under consideration as future homes for school administrative offices. Chairwoman SusanMary Redinger told the School Committee it would be “ill-advised” to support adding Bromfield House to the Harvard Town Center Historic District until the building’s future use is settled.
Redinger reported she had asked Town Administrator Tim Bragan what might happen to Bromfield House if the school administration moved out. She said he raised a new possibility for the building: It could be leased, either as office space or a residence, with income from the lease going to the Bromfield School. When Margaret Bromfield Blanchard willed the house to the town, she specified that money from its sale be used to benefit Bromfield.
Committee member Kirsten Wright expressed some frustration at being asked “to say yes or no to something without much data.” She said that all the possible locations for school offices—Bromfield House, the old library, and upper Town Hall (which the School Committee has rejected)—belong to the whole town, so the selectmen and other boards should all be helping in the decision.
