Back in July, an original drama called “The Stone Girl” premiered upstairs at the Harvard General Store. It was written by a local playwright, acted in by a cast of five Bromfield girls, supported by a fantastic production team mostly from Harvard, and directed by the former education director of Huntington Theatre Company.
It was a unique cultural event that had a great run over the course of one weekend. There was a standing-room-only audience the first night and a packed house for the Sunday matinee as well. Altogether, 150 people turned out to see the show. We enjoyed a lively talk-back after the Sunday matinee, where there were many comments and suggestions that will inform a rewrite of the play.
It was a wonderful, fun, enlightening, and collaborative experience for the whole “Stone Girl” production team, and, we like to think, a contribution to the cultural vitality of our town. Our team—both kids and adults—believed in one another, supported one another, and had great chemistry. And we were delighted and humbled at the support and positive response from our community.
The production was made possible in part by a grant from the Harvard Cultural Council, which we very much appreciate. We were also supported by ArtsNashoba; a good number of patrons, sponsors, and other donors; and a great many businesses that bought ads in our program. Thank-yous all around!
