This week police made eight traffic stops, which resulted in five citations and three verbal warnings. The ambulance crew responded to two medical emergencies and took one person to the hospital; one person refused treatment or transport to the hospital. Two people called seeking permission to have an outdoor cooking fire.
Tuesday, Aug. 18
At 5:48 p.m. police responded to a two-car accident at Sorrento’s, which took place when one car made a left turn from Ayer Road into the establishment’s parking lot and another car traveling on Ayer Road struck it from behind. The driver of the second car was cited for failure to use caution; that car was towed. There were no injuries. A motorist called at 11:02 p.m. to advise police that her car had suffered a flat tire and would be left on the side of the road on Fairbank Street until morning.
Wednesday, Aug. 19
No significant incidents to report.
Thursday, Aug. 20: A resident on Old Littleton Road called at 1:45 p.m. to report suspicions about a gray work van that had been driving up and down the road for an hour. The vehicle was gone when police arrived to investigate.
Friday, Aug. 21
Someone called at 5:44 a.m. to report that a tree had fallen on Willard Lane and was blocking part of the roadway. Police advised the caller that the Department of Public Works could not assist with issues on a private road. Police say a local resident with a chain saw took care of the tree.
Saturday, Aug. 22
At 3:46 p.m. someone called to report suspicious activity on Old Littleton Road. A Blanchard Road resident called at 9:03 p.m. to report that someone had knocked at the front door and then left. Another Blanchard Road resident called at 11:09 p.m. to report a similar incident, except this time someone had left a birthday cake and some pizza on the front step. Police checking the area came across some youths and asked them if they knew anything about the incidents. The kids confessed to being the perpetrators; the officer advised them to stop. More suspicious activity was reported, this time on Pine Ridge Drive, at 11:28 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 23
At 2:46 p.m. a Brown Road resident called to report hearing gunshots nearby. Police asked for assistance from Bolton officers because Brown Road is near Bolton. The officers checked the area for about an hour and eventually found the source of the noise, a Bolton home where a resident was target-shooting.
Monday, Aug. 24
A Murray Lane resident called at 7:30 a.m. with a complaint about commercial trucks traveling on that road periodically. Someone called at 11:11 a.m. to report a sick-looking animal in the roadway on Shaker Road. Police say the responding officer saw the animal, which appeared to be a dog or fox, but it ran off into the woods. At 3:50 p.m. a caller reported that a truck belonging to a driveway-paving crew was blocking part of the roadway on Willow Road. The responding officer directed traffic around the vehicle until the owner was able to move it. A resident on Old Littleton Road called at 3:53 p.m. to report that, a week earlier, someone had rummaged through an unlocked car in the driveway. A motorist called at 5:35 p.m. to report driving behind a car being driven erratically on Stow Road. The caller provided the car’s plate number and police traced it to a Harvard residence, but they did not locate the vehicle. At 8:16 p.m. Boxborough police called to request assistance from Harvard officers in responding to a noise complaint.
