After two unsuccessful tries, the town finally received three bids for the 40 new windows to be installed at Hildreth House. The contract will be awarded to Moore Lumber Company of Ayer, the lowest qualified bidder. The replacement windows will be manufactured by Weather Shield and will be ordered as soon as the contract is signed. Bolton Road woodworker Wade Holtzman and a team of volunteers will install the windows.
Work continues on the request for proposals (RFP) for an architect for the design development phase of the Hildreth House renovation, which was approved at the 2015 Annual Town Meeting. According to Town Administrator Tim Bragan, the RFP should be ready by early September and will include wording allowing the town to use the winning bidder for any future renovation phases of Hildreth House that might be approved at a future Town Meeting. Bragan emphasized that phase two of the renovation is not being funded, and that the contract does not include any design work on phase two. He explained that the wording is simply there so the town would not have to go through the procurement process again. Bragan estimated that bid requests for construction at Hildreth House will go out in February.
Meanwhile, the work necessary to connect the Harvard fire station and Hildreth House to the town sewer system began Aug. 3 and should be finished in a few weeks. Both buildings will remain open during the project.
