We’re perplexed by the town’s reluctance or inability to answer our queries about a new and startlingly loud alarm horn located somewhere in the town center. It sounded more than once in June, but it has been silent since. What’s it mean? Our reporter Carlene Phillips has been on a quest for answers for more than three weeks without a credible response from any town official, as she recounts in a “Reporter’s Notebook” this week. Aren’t those of us within hearing distance of this new device (which includes most of the town) deserving of an explanation? We’re waiting.
