The Pennsylvania sexual misconduct case against James Dwight of Eldridge Road remained pending this week following a conference before Judge Howard Knisely of the Lancaster Court of Common Pleas on Monday.
Dwight has been charged with two counts of corrupting a minor, stemming from his alleged sexual involvement with a student in 2006 while he was a teacher at Lancaster (Pennsylvania) Catholic High School. Both offenses are misdemeanors under Pennsylvania law and carry a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. State sentencing guidelines for such a misdemeanor do not recommend incarceration, however, and a conviction does not require the guilty party to register as a sex offender on the state’s registry.
Dwight has yet to plead his guilt or innocence. Lancaster Assistant District Attorney Karen Mansfield said Tuesday that another hearing would be scheduled for August. At that time, she said, Dwight could decide to plead guilty, or go to trial before a judge or jury, or ask for more time.
Dwight’s attorney did not respond to requests about the status of the case.
