Police say they are concerned about two incidents that occurred this week, where people posted notices about suspicious occurrences on the website Nextdoor Harvard without filing a police report. They advise that they do not launch investigations into any incident for which no formal report has been filed.

Stow police called at 1:15 a.m. advising Harvard police to be on the lookout for a woman who might be suicidal. Police did not locate the woman. Bolton police called at 3:43 a.m. to ask for assistance in searching for a man seen loitering near a home on Kettle Hole Road. Police did not find the man. An officer on patrol at 1:40 p.m. came across a utility crew whose vehicle was parked in a dangerous location on Ayer Road; the officer asked the crew to move it. State police requested the Harvard ambulance at an accident on Route 2 at 3:21 p.m.; one person was taken to the hospital. At 5:28 p.m. a woman stopped at the station to turn in a driver’s license she had found in New Bedford. Police returned it to the New Bedford owner. At 6:45 p.m. a Mass. Ave. resident called to report that two cars parked at the end of the driveway might have been involved in an accident. Police say the cars were parked on the road for a gathering at a nearby home. At 9:05 p.m. an East Bare Hill Road resident called to report that her back door had been broken, either during an attempted break-in or by a bear. She said she did not want the police to respond to take a report, but she later posted the incident on the website Nextdoor Harvard, asking people to notify police if they had any information about it. Police say that there is no open investigation about the incident because the woman did not file a formal report.

At 9:07 a.m. a Lancaster County Road resident called to report a larceny of tools and gas cards. An officer went to the scene to gather information and take a report. At 5:17 p.m. a caller reported a dog running loose near the Route 2 offramp. Police notified animal control. At 10:02 p.m. someone called with suspicions about a car parked in the conservation area off South Shaker Road. The investigating officer was unable to locate the owner of the unoccupied vehicle. A Lancaster County Road resident called at 10:06 p.m. with complaints about fireworks in the area. The responding officer heard the fireworks but was unable to locate their source.
Friday, June 12
A motorist called at 7:17 a.m. to report a car being driven erratically on Still River Road. The caller said that the vehicle had passed three others in a no-passing area and was headed toward the center of town. Police did not locate the car. At 4:44 p.m. police were called to Old Littleton Road, where a car had rolled off a driveway and into the woods. No citations were issued; the driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Someone called at 5:58 p.m. to report a disabled car at a business on Ayer Road. The car was gone when police arrived to investigate. At 6:22 p.m. an officer on patrol advised the driver of a car parked next to a no-parking sign that the vehicle had to be moved.

Someone called at 8:53 a.m. to report having lost a cell phone at the town beach. At 10:55 a.m. an Old Littleton Road resident called to report that statues had been stolen from her yard. Police say the caller did not file a report as expected, but instead posted a message about it on the Nextdoor Harvard website. Because no report was filed, there is no open investigation of the incident. At 1:04 p.m. someone called to report a Jeep Cherokee with what looked like a satellite dish hanging out its window parked at the Prospect Hill overlook. Police say the caller was concerned that the driver might have been using the equipment to spy on people in the area. The investigating officer reported that the Jeep driver was experimenting with a ham radio. A motorist called at 2:09 p.m. to report a disabled car parked on Ayer Road. Police say the driver of the car in question already had help on the way. A Stow Road resident called at 7:42 p.m. to report a larceny. Police say that an estimated $6,000 worth of electronics was stolen and that the burglars may have entered the home through an unlocked door. The case is under investigation. A resident on Old Shirley Road called at 9:01 p.m. about a car parked in the driveway of a neighbor who was on vacation. The investigating officer reported that the driver of the car was a son of the vacationing neighbors. A Myrick Lane resident called at 9:28 p.m. to report fireworks in the area. Police say that no source for the noise was found in Harvard, but they suspect that someone in Ayer was setting off fireworks.
Monday, June 15
At 9:22 a.m. a caller reported a man acting suspiciously at a business on Ayer Road. The case is under investigation. At 4:15 p.m. a caller reported that a limb had fallen across utility wires on Still River Depot Road and that the wires were arcing. National Grid was notified, and police and fire personnel were sent to the scene to assist. An officer on patrol at 4:20 p.m. encountered a disabled vehicle on Still River Road and called for assistance from AAA. A house-sitter on Woodchuck Hill Road called at 6:22 p.m. to report that someone had damaged the mailbox at the house. At 9:06 p.m. a caller reported that a large tree branch had fallen on wires on Warren Avenue and was blocking the roadway. Police notified National Grid and the Department of Public Works and went to the scene to assist.
