The end of the 2014–2015 school year marks an unusually high number of educators retiring from the Harvard schools, with one administrator, five teachers, and three learning assistants heading out to new adventures. Their median years of service in the teaching profession is 19.
Gretchen Henry, whose most recent role was associate principal at Hildreth Elementary School, has been in education for 37 years, all but a few of them in Harvard. Also retiring from the elementary school are fourth-grade teacher Kathy Kittredge, with 30 years in Harvard; Debbie Carroll, who started here in 1998; Arlene Sullivan, who taught third grade at HES for 16 years; and Maryann Cheveralls, fourth-grade teacher for 11 years.
Kindergarten aide Diane Mendell is retiring after eight years, while learning assistants Annie Redford and Sharon Mrakovich are leaving HES after 25 and 15 years, respectively.
The Bromfield School is losing Steve Besold, who is retiring after teaching for 31 years in the social studies department.
