I wish to commend the fine performers of this weekend’s “The Winter’s Tale.” The Bromfield School’s drama students mounted a marvelous interpretation of this somewhat unusual Shakespeare play, navigating both its tragedy and its comedy with aplomb.
I was fortunate to be informed before the performance began that this production had had its challenges, and that a number of the male parts had changed hands just three-and-a-half weeks prior to curtain. I feel Joey D’Amore in particular deserves public acknowledgement for his extraordinary role in this play. This young man took over the largest role in the play, King Leontes, attempting to master both an enormous number of lines and the execution of the role in a very short span of time. Thankfully, he was discretely equipped on Saturday with the script for reference, and the cast worked together beautifully to support him and each other. I was truly impressed by how courageous he was and how professionally he acquitted himself. The evening, a fundraiser for Bromfield drama, gave clear evidence of the quality of the program, its leadership, and its students.
