For the third year in a row, the Friends of the Harvard Public Library held our annual book sale at the “new” library, and thanks to the great generosity of donors, buyers, and many volunteers, our results significantly exceeded last year’s sale.
It is important to point out that all the book sale profits are returned to the people of Harvard by funding library activities, including extensive children’s programs, Universal Class online courses, Consumer Reports Online, Friends of the Arts performances, museum passes, and a scholarship in honor of a great friend of the library, Dr. Jeff Harris.
Thanks again to Harvard residents who donated to and then bought thousands of books at the sale.
Thanks to Library Director Mary Wilson and her staff for their cooperation and patience, allowing us to disrupt the library for a month. Our town is incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated and knowledgeable staff that provides so many important programs and services.
I can’t thank enough our great volunteers for the hundreds of hours they spent to run the sale. They gave up Saturdays and weekdays and nights to sort books and work the sale. We were fortunate to welcome several new volunteers and students who participated for the first time this year. This event can only be run successfully with many minds and hands working together.
We also thank the Lions Club, the Harvard Unitarian Church, and the Council on Aging for lending us tables and the Harvard Press for its coverage of the sale.
