TED Talks at Hildreth House

The nonprofit group TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment, and Design were discussed. Today it covers a wide variety of topics, with each talk lasting no longer than 18 minutes. On Friday, May 29, from noon to 1 p.m., participants are invited to bring a bag lunch and enjoy viewing a TED talk on Hildreth House’s new TV; a discussion will follow the program. Drinks and dessert will be provided. Call 978-456-4120 to reserve a seat.


On the road with the COA

Call the COA at 978-456-4120 to sign up for any of these trips:

  • Wednesday, June 10: Lowell National Historical Park. Participants will start at the Visitors Center with a video on the history of the Lowell mills, then head to the Boott Cotton Mills Museum. After lunch the group will tour the Mill Girls and Immigrants exhibit. The trip will end with a trolley tour of the area. Cost is $15 plus lunch; payment is due by May 27.
  • Tuesday, July 14: Cape Ann Lighthouse Cruise. Participants will travel to Gloucester for a two-and-a-half hour boat tour of six lighthouses. The tour includes narration on Gloucester’s fishing history and facts and stories about the writers and artists inspired by the area. Cost is $35 plus lunch; payment is due by June 30.
  • Thursday, July 30: Yankee Homecoming. Participants will stroll around the coastal town of Newburyport during the town’s annual homecoming event. Cost is $10 plus lunch; payment is due by July 15.
  • Wednesday, October 14: Oktoberfest. Participants will travel to East Hill Farm in Troy, New Hampshire, to enjoy authentic German food, a live “Oompah” band, and the fall foliage. Located at the base of Mount Monadnock, East Hill Farm is known for its beauty, charm, and exceptional service. Cost is $35. Sign up no later than Sept. 14.
