Police stopped seven vehicles during the week and issued five citations for speeding and one for failure to stop at the flashing red light in town center. There were two motor vehicle accidents. The Fire Department was called out to extinguish two outdoor fires. The ambulance responded to five 911 calls, one requiring transport with advanced life support staff on board. And the first burglary of the year was reported.
Tuesday, April 28
The Fire Department, police, and ambulance responded to a 10:12 a.m. report of an accident on Still River Road. A vehicle had struck a utility pole. Two passengers were injured and taken to Emerson Hospital. The driver was cited for failure to stay within marked lanes. Verizon was notified of the damaged pole. A woman called at 10:45 a.m. to report a missing German shepherd, last seen on Route 117. Animal Control Officer Paul Willard was notified. At 10:49 a.m. the Fire Department was called to the Maxant honey factory on Ayer Road where it extinguished a brush fire. A 911 call at 1 p.m. sent officers to a Still River Road residence to investigate a burglary, the first of 2015. The thief had used a crowbar to break into the house through a back door and took a substantial number of items, including laptops, an iPad, jewelry, and money. There are no suspects, and the case remains under investigation. At 4:33 p.m. police went to the scene of a one-car motor vehicle accident on the Route 2 eastbound exit ramp. The car was heavily damaged. The state police, who handle accidents on Route 2, were notified. A Hildreth Elementary School staff member called at 5:14 p.m. to report that the school was working with the parents of two children involved in a dispute to resolve their conflict.
Wednesday, April 29
An officer stopped a speeding vehicle on Poor Farm Road at 9:23 a.m. and issued a ticket. The ambulance was summoned by a 911 call to Depot Road at 12:38 p.m. to provide a lift assist to a male resident who had fallen. Following up on a tip from a resident who had seen a report of the Still River burglary on NextDoor Harvard, police issued a “be-on-the-lookout” bulletin for a brown- or tan-colored sedan driven by “a male wearing dark glasses” who had been seen in the area. At 3:21 p.m. a driver called 911 to report that a red BMW had passed her at high speed on Mass. Ave. in front of Hildreth Elementary School, where no passing is allowed. Police located and spoke to the driver of the offending vehicle. The Fire Department was called to extinguish a permitted brush fire that was still smoldering at an Ayer Road location at 8:25 p.m.
Thursday, April 30
Police stopped a vehicle on Poor Farm Road at 6:39 a.m. and issued the driver a speeding ticket. An Ayer Road resident came to the station at 3:17 p.m. to report having seen two bags of trash fall from a vehicle. Police tried unsuccessfully to locate the driver and asked DPW to dispose of the refuse. At 5:28 p.m. an officer was passed by a car with a flat tire on Still River Road. The officer signalled the driver to pull over and called Terra Nova to tow the car to a location where the tire could be repaired.
Friday, May 1
At 4:20 p.m. an Abbott Lane resident reported an attempted tax fraud by phone. Police advised the resident to simply ignore such offers. Responding to a 6:32 p.m. 911 call, the ambulance took a female Park Lane resident to Emerson Hospital, with advanced life support staff on board. A Sholan Circle resident called at 9:02 to report that two suspicious-looking vehicles were parked nearby. An officer checked, but the vehicles were gone.
Saturday, May 2
At 9:47 a.m. an officer issued a speeding ticket to the driver of a vehicle on Still River Road. At 10:05 a.m. an officer issued a ticket to a driver who had failed to stop at the flashing red light in the center of town. A resident phoned police at 11:14 a.m. to report that a car parked near the library with a dog inside appeared not to have adequate ventilation for the animal. An officer determined there was no problem. At 4:43 p.m. a resident complained of being passed by a car at high speed in a no-passing zone on Still River Road. Police were unable to locate the vehicle. A member of the Congregational Church on Still River Road called to report that a group would be spending the night there and vehicles would be parked overnight on the property. At 10:42 p.m. a South Shaker Road resident asked police to check on a suspicious-looking person seen sitting on a rock near Glenview Drive. The person was gone when police arrived.
Sunday, May 3
Boxborough police called shortly after midnight for help in booking a person involved in a domestic dispute. Later, at 7:41 a.m., Concord police asked for help locating a Harvard resident whose wallet had been found. A Harvard officer returned the missing item to its owner. At 12:38 p.m. a Littleton Road resident called to say a boxer was roaming in the area of Littleton and Poor Farm roads, harassing neighbors and impeding traffic. An officer retrieved the dog and eventually returned it to its owner. The ambulance responded to a 911 call at 3:51 p.m. and took a male patient from an East Bare Hill Road residence to Emerson Hospital.
Monday, May 4
Someone phoned at 10:05 a.m. to report that a partially-unclothed woman, “possibly urinating,” was seated on the bumper of a car near Littleton County and Sherry roads. Police were unable to locate the individual. At 12:20 p.m. the ambulance responded to a 911 call at Hildreth Elementary School and took an adult to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. An Ayer Road caller reported seeing a suspicious-looking man sitting on a car on Ayer Road near Route 2 at 3:14 p.m. The vehicle was disabled and the state police were already aware of the problem. At 4:05 p.m. a Still River resident reported a suspicious-looking vehicle parked nearby; it was a delivery truck awaiting a pickup. Police issued two speeding tickets between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. on Mass. Ave. in front of Hildreth Elementary School and one on nearby Bolton Road. At 7:34 the ambulance answered a 911 call and transported a male Wilroy Avenue resident to St. Vincent’s Hospital. An Old Shirley Road resident thought someone with a flashlight was outside her house. Police responded to the 11:33 p.m. call and determined the light was coming from a neighbor’s outdoor lighting.
