Charter-Comcast deal ‘off the table’

May 7, 2015

The deal by which Comcast would replace Charter as Harvard’s cable TV and Internet provider is “off the table,” Town Administrator Tim Bragan told the selectmen this week.

Comcast dropped its efforts to buy Time Warner Cable in late April. That decision called a halt to the customer swaps between Charter and Comcast that would have sent Harvard subscribers, however unwillingly, into Comcast’s arms. However, many financial news sources are reporting that Charter itself now wants to buy Time Warner.

Bragan told the selectmen that there is “background noise” suggesting that some swaps among the various companies may still be in the works. So what is the message about Harvard cable subscribers’ fate? “Stay tuned.”
