Bromfield placed first in the Mid-Wach C League Championships at Lunenburg last week, competing in field events Wednesday, May 20, and running events Thursday, May 21.
The team took seven first places in individual events and one first place in the relays. Junior Amy Hunter scored the most points for the team, placing first in three individual events and running the last leg of the winning 4×100-meter relay team. She took first in the 100-meter with a time of 12.99 seconds, first in long jump at 16 feet 6 inches, and first in triple jump at 33-7.
Other first-place finishers were freshman Chloe Alfieri in the 200-meter at 27.11, senior Brianna Harte in discus at 108-1, sophomore Grace Turnbull in high jump at 5-0, and freshman Arielle Sclar in pole vault at 8-6.
Coach David Boisvert commented, “The girls’ team hasn’t been league champs in quite a few years. We knew this win was a possibility from pretty early on, but it’s always exciting when it actually happens.”
Bromfield will next compete at the District E Championships on Saturday, May 30, at Westfield State. This meet is also called the State Qualifier; athletes and relay teams that place in the top four in their event will move on to compete at the State Championship meet.
