Superintendent Linda Dwight told the School Committee this week that absences at Bromfield on April 3, Good Friday and the day before the start of Passover, were the highest since 2012. Of 712 students, 260 (37 percent) took the day off, as did 17 members of the Bromfield staff. Absences were fewer at Hildreth Elementary School, where 41 of 428 students (approximately 10 percent) were missing. Good Friday qualifies as a religious holiday for students and families who choose to observe it. Harvard teachers are allowed two religious holidays per year.
