This week police made 20 motor vehicle stops, which resulted in nine citations, nine verbal warnings, and two summonses. The Harvard ambulance responded to four emergency calls and took one person to the hospital. Three people refused treatment and/or transportation to the hospital.
Tuesday, Jan. 13
Someone stopped at the station at 9:07 a.m. to report that vandals had painted a swastika on a rock at the Ann Lees Road ballfield. The Department of Public Works was dispatched to paint over it.
Wednesday, Jan. 14
At 9:24 a.m. a Still River Road resident called to report a fire in a gas stove. Fire and police officers were dispatched to the scene and determined that there was no fire, but there was smoke being generated by drippings from a wax candle left on top of the stove. The residents were evacuated while the smoke was cleared. At 5:21 p.m. police received an emergency call about a four-car accident near Harvard Lanes. Police say that one car traveling on Ayer Road, followed by three other cars, slowed to make a turn onto Gebo Lane. Cars number two and three also slowed, but car number four, which was bringing up the rear, failed to stop soon enough and struck the rear of car number three, creating a chain reaction with cars two and one. The driver of car four was cited for following too close and failure to use caution. One person was injured but refused treatment. Car number two was towed.
Thursday, Jan. 15
At 7:52 a.m. a caller reported striking a deer on Massachusetts Avenue. Animal Control was notified to remove the deer carcass. Emergency responders were dispatched to check the driver for possible glass in the eye, but the driver refused treatment. The car was towed.
Friday, Jan. 16
Someone called at 3:22 p.m. to report several large guinea hens in the roadway on Massachusetts Avenue. Animal Control was dispatched, but the birds were not found.
Saturday, Jan. 17
At 9:38 a.m. fire officers were dispatched to Hildreth Elementary School to investigate the smell of gas. National Grid was called to the scene to investigate but did not find any sign of a gas leak.
Sunday, Jan. 18
A landlord on Still River Road called at 9:18 p.m. regarding a dispute with a tenant, but was advised that no police action would be taken because it was a civil matter. At 7:57 p.m. a caller reported that a car was stuck on some ice in the Oxbow parking lot. An officer transported the driver to the DPW to get some sand; however, the sand did not work to free the car. The officer drove the driver to his residence; the car was left there overnight.
Monday, Jan. 19
An officer on patrol at 8:09 p.m. stopped to investigate a disabled car on Pinnacle Road. Police say the car had run out of gas, and the officer took the driver to get some.
