Veltri named to Historical Commission; Ammesmaki joins DPW

December 12, 2014

At its Dec. 2 meeting last week, the Board of Selectmen approved the appointment of Rick Veltri of East Bare Hill Road to the Historical Commission. Veltri, who has lived in Harvard about 30 years, was named an alternate member. Before retirement, he worked for General Electric and traveled in connection with his job. Veltri is also a member of the Harvard Lions Club.

Chairman Joe Theriault said that the commission has an opening to replace Ken Swanton, who served on the Historical Commission before being elected a selectman, as well as a second alternate position.

At the same meeting, DPW Director Rich Nota asked for—and got—the approval of the selectmen to hire Ryan Ammesmaki for a full-time position in the department. He described Ammesmaki, who has filled in as a snowplow driver for the past two years, as a hard worker and a real asset to the department. When some kidding broke out among the selectmen about mailboxes that were felled by plows during the recent snowstorm, Ammesmaki took it in good spirits. “I don’t think I’ve hit a mailbox yet,” he assured the selectmen, who quickly approved his hiring.
