At its Monday night meeting, the Planning Board approved a fifth volunteer for a seat on its commercial design standards task force, a committee whose primary task is to propose design guidelines for Harvard’s commercial district.
She is landscape designer Rochelle Greayer, and she joins four other members who were approved at the Planning Board’s last meeting on Nov. 3: former Parks and Recreation Commissioner Jim Lee, real estate broker Suzanne Dutkewych, developer Al Combs, and Economic Development Committee Chairman Rich Maiore. All five are residents of Harvard.
According to Planning Board Chairwoman Kara Minar, the task force was created to deal with issues raised by residents over potential development in the commercial district.
“We want to make sure that we’re hearing those concerns and finding a way to address them in design guidelines or bylaws so that, as a town, we can have some idea of what works, what we would like to see, and what would be an asset to the town,” said Minar.
Minar said that the Planning Board wants to add at least one more member, an architect, to the task force.
The task force will meet on the second and fourth Mondays of each month to review existing design standards from surrounding towns and determine “best practices” for future guidelines. Its first meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Center on the Common.
