Steve Beckman, who has been director of the Harvard Ambulance Service for six years, told the Board of Selectmen last week that he wanted to broaden the decision-making power within the organization by naming a co-director. He proposed Jason Cotting, who is already assistant director for finance, for the new position.
He brought the decision to the selectmen, Beckman explained, because they appoint the director and therefore should be the ones to approve making a change to the position. Squad members had unanimously approved both the idea of co-directors and the choice of Cotting for the new position at their monthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 17, Beckman told the selectmen. At their Tuesday, Nov. 18, meeting, the selectmen followed suit, agreeing unanimously to the creation of the co-director position and appointing Cotting to fill it.
At the same meeting, Beckman presented the squad’s newest member, Alex Calderwood. Calderwood is a Bromfield graduate, a registered EMT, and a volunteer ski patroller. He will be on duty for the ambulance squad two days a week.
