Longtime resident, community volunteer

Alice (Anderson) Watt, 97, of Still River, died peacefully at home on Nov. 8, 2014. She was born in Worcester on Sept. 13, 1917, daughter of Ernest and Thyra (Anderson) Anderson and was the wife of the late Richard Watt, who died in 2007. She grew up in Worcester and was a graduate of the Worcester school system and Worcester State Teachers College. Alice worked as a secretary in her father’s law office in Worcester for several years. She married Richard in 1946 and moved to Still River.
Alice was the bookkeeper for the Watt family farm, D.M. Watt and Sons, at her home, and with her husband, Rich, brought up her family there. She volunteered at the USO during WW II and also volunteered at the Nashoba Community Hospital gift store and at the Harvard Public Library.
She was a Girl Scout as well as a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Harvard Woman’s Club, and the Harvard Congregational Church. She loved hooking rugs, sewing, knitting, quilting, and bird watching. Alice especially enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren when they were young and in later years found great joy in time spent with her great-granddaughter.
Her survivors include her son David and his wife Myszka Watt of Lunenburg; two daughters, Susan Watt of Acton and Margery Watt of Ayer; two granddaughters, Melissa and her husband Carl Johnson, and Sarah A. Watt of Lunenburg; and her great-granddaughter Molly Johnson. She was also the sister of the late Lloyd Anderson.
Visiting hours were held at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton, on Tuesday, Nov. 11. A Memorial Service was held the Harvard Congregational Church on Wednesday, Nov. 12. A private burial was held at Bellevue Cemetery, Harvard. (www.badgerfuneral.com).
