This week police made 15 motor vehicle stops, which resulted in six written warnings and nine verbal warnings. The Harvard ambulance responded to seven emergency calls and took five people to the hospital, one with Advanced Life Support personnel on board. Two people refused treatment.
Tuesday, Oct. 7
An Ayer Road resident called at 11:36 a.m. to report that four hubcaps, valued at about $80, had been stolen off a car on Sept. 28. At 12:30 p.m. a caller reported a speeding truck in the area of Park Lane. Police checked that area but did not find the truck. A Murray Lane resident called at 3:57 p.m. to inform police that he would be doing some target practice on his property, in the event anyone should call about gunshots in the area. A Still River Road resident called at 5:02 p.m. to report a dead animal in the road. Police left a message for the Department of Public Works to remove it. At 5:39 p.m. a caller reported that someone had broken into two buildings at the Oak Ridge Observatory. (See story.) A Myrick Lane resident reported at 8:34 p.m. that someone in an unfamiliar car was driving slowly through the neighborhood. The caller was concerned that it could be someone gathering information for a burglary. Police did not locate the vehicle.
Wednesday, Oct. 8
Someone stopped at the station at 4:36 p.m. to turn in a found pocket knife; it is still at the station. Someone on horseback called at 5:04 p.m. to complain that a vehicle had passed without slowing or stopping for the horse. The rider was able to provide police with a partial license plate number, but police were unable to trace the vehicle from the information given.
Thursday, Oct. 9
An officer on patrol at 12:36 p.m. observed two large trucks in the roadway on Warren Ave. The officer located the contractors who owned the trucks and asked them to move the vehicles. At 1:48 p.m. a caller reported another break-in at the Oak ridge Observatory, this time in building 16. At 6:07 p.m. a caller reported a dog loose on Littleton Road but called back 15 minutes later to inform police that the dog had apparently found its way home.
Friday, Oct. 10
At 12:08 a.m. a caller reported what appeared to be a disabled vehicle in the roadway on Whitney Road. Police were able to contact the owner, who moved it. An officer on patrol at 1:42 a.m. stopped to investigate an occupied car parked in front of Rollstone Bank & Trust. The driver told the officer he had just pulled off the road to rest.
Saturday, Oct. 11
A resident on Old Littleton Road called at 9:18 a.m. to request permission for an outdoor cooking fire. At 3:34 p.m. a caller reported that there was a blown transformer at a location on South Shaker Road, and that smoke and sparks were coming from the box. Police and fire personnel were dispatched to the scene; National Grid and Verizon were notified. Crews repaired the equipment and replaced the utility pole.
Sunday, Oct. 12
An officer on patrol at 12:44 a.m. stopped at the General Store to investigate an occupied car parked there. The driver told the officer he had pulled off the road to rest. At 5:48 a.m. an Old Littleton Road resident called to complain about a very bright light coming from the direction of a neighbor’s property. Police advised the caller that it was a civil matter. At 2:58 p.m. police were called to the scene of a two-car accident across from the General Store. (See story.)
Monday, Oct. 13
A Whitney Road resident called at 10:26 a.m. to alert police about a lost cat. Police notified animal control. At 2:06 p.m. a caller reported another break-in at the Oak Ridge Observatory; this time four buildings were damaged. (See story.)
