The Harvard Flea Market—featuring more than 150 booths of antiques, collectibles, and miscellanea—will take place Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Bromfield School. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 12. Admission is $3 per person; $1 for children ages 6 to 12 and adults 65 and older; and $5 for early birds (those arriving before 9 a.m.).
Now in its 43rd year, the Harvard Flea Market offers an eclectic array of goods, including vintage jewelry, artwork, handmade sweaters and baskets, glassware and china, sports memorabilia, toys, games, dolls, books, maps, comic books, musical and scientific instruments, Halloween costumes, oriental rugs, leather goods, video games, DVDs, and more.
The popular food court at the Flea Market boasts Thai and Spanish food and wood-fired pizza. The Harvard Lions Club will offer hamburgers, cheeseburgers, sausage and peppers, and its famous hand-cut regular and sweet potato fries. For more dessert options, a quick trip to the Common will bring market-goers to the Congregational Church of Harvard’s Apple Festival, featuring homemade apples pies fresh out of local ovens.
The Flea Market is hosted as a fundraiser by the League of Women Voters of Harvard and the Harvard Schools Trust. The Schools Trust was formed in 1989 and since then has awarded nearly $700,000 in grants that have provided Hildreth Elementary School and the Bromfield School with curriculum support, equipment, extra-curricular experiences, and professional development. The League was established in 1950 as a local branch of the League of Women Voters of the U.S. It is a nonpartisan, multi-issue organization whose mission is to encourage informed and active participation in local, state, and federal government and to influence public policy through education.
