Bob O’Shea, the harbor master of Bare Hill Pond, took his personal kayak out to do some work on August 26 and tied it up to one of the two town docks after he was finished for the day. He told the beach staff who were there at the time that the kayak was his, but when he returned on August 30, the beach was closed for the season, the docks had been stored in the boathouse, and the kayak was missing.
O’Shea purchased the blue and white Perception Sport Rhythm 11 kayak in June of 2013. The kayak is about 11 feet long and cost approximately $449. It was tied up at one of the docks, when the beach staff removed it prior to taking the docks out of the water. The staff left the kayak on the beach because none of the staffers that day knew that O’Shea was the owner.
The Parks and Recreation Commission is looking into ways to prevent this from happening in the future. Anyone with information about the kayak can contact O’Shea at 978-456-0018 or notify the Parks and Recreation Commission.
